A tape drive is a data storage device that reads and writes data on a magnetic tape. Magnetic tape data storage is typically used for offline, archival data storage.
A client of mine wants to hire a Business Development Manager to sell tape drive services to enterprise organisations. To my surprise, tape is still going strong and indeed it is much preferred by a lot of companies as it is safe and reliable and can be stored safely offsite.
My client recognises this and wants to extend their services beyond an existing agreement they have with one vendor. There are 3 to 4 IT hardware vendors who deal in tape and yet don’t have a specialist offsite storage partner in place. In addition call centres work with companies who prefer to store information on tape.
Currently, the existing team are targeted with account managing and selling offsite document storage. Sometimes tape can get overlooked and their clients look elsewhere for an alternate storage company to store their tape.
The salary on this occasion will extend to €50k DOE plus opportunities to earn the same again in commission earnings. A car allowance is offered, laptop, phone etc. In short the usual tools.
I think the role would suit somebody who comes from an office supplies background. Perhaps these people account manage companies who use tape and rely on their business supplies partner to source it for them. Also interested to hear back from IT storage specialists as this client plans to roll out cloud services from mid-2016. This type of sales person will also have had exposure to tape.
The nice thing about this role is that although Dublin based, applications are open from candidates located nationwide. They have regional offices and teleworking is a way of life for most salespeoplenowadays. There is an existing team in place, a strong market presence so plenty of opportunity to leverage on the relationships of key customers.
